BELGRADE, 11. JAN. 2017 – The Serbian Ministry of Justice has sent to the French judicial authorities an extradition request for former Kosovo Albanian paramility commander Ramush Haradinaj, arrested in France. The arrest is based on a Interpol war crimes warrant issued by Serbia in 2004. The Serbian War Crimes Prosecution has decided to expand the indictment against former KLA (“Kosovo Liberation Army”) leader Ramush Haradinaj. The decision was made because the Prosecution has new evidence, N1 broadcaster has reported. The evidence concerns Haradinaj’s responsibility for war crimes committed in Kosovo that were not previously considered by the Hague Tribunal, and represent an addition to the evidence already submitted to France. Serbia is seeking Haradinaj’s extradition from France, where he was arrested last week. The new evidence will be sent to the French court dealing with the case as soon as it has been translated into French – which is expected to happen before the end of this week. The French judicial authorities will decide whether conditions have been met to extradite Haradinaj. Serbia suspects Haradinaj of committing crimes in Kosovo that have not been previously included in the Hague Tribunal’s case against the former Kosovo prime minister, which ended in his acquittal. The war crimes committed against civilians, cited in Serbia’s indictment, took place during 1998 and 1999.
